MAXIM ULTRA Character Intros: Talon Merthane
Brian Cox, who has no connection to Maxim Ultra outside my imagination.
TALON MERTHANE - It’s safe to say that without Talon Merthane, Maxim Ultra wouldn’t be who he is today. Years ago, when Max was just a small child, Merthane met Max’s father, Jim, and introduced him to the occupation he’d hold until the day he died. Merthane taught Jim everything he knew, even some things Jim didn’t want to learn, and eventually, the two had a falling out that would never be repaired.
These days, Merthane, the galaxy’s most effective bounty hunter, lives to make Maxim Ultra’s life miserable. Not only has his grudge against Jim transferred to his son, but Max has been responsible for his fair share of pain in Merthane’s life. Now, Merthane has designs to eliminate Maxim Ultra from his life forever.
Like with Glintock and Lance Reddick, there was only one actor I had in mind while writing Talon Merthane—Brian Cox. Though he’s probably too advanced in age to play the role now, I always think back to him from the early 2000’s and his roles in X-Men 2 and the Jason Bourne films. I just love the way he delivers dialogue and Merthane has some nasty retorts in his arsenal that would be great coming out of Brian Cox’s mouth.
